Program Overview

Asthma affects more than 22 million people in the United States. The number of deaths due to asthma has declined in recent years; however, hospitalization rates have remained relatively stable over the last decade, and the burden of avoidable hospitalizations remains substantial. This program will focus on the use of practice guidelines in patient management, including individualizing therapy and methods to improve patient self-management, adherence, and ultimately, treatment effectiveness.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

• Apply clinical recommendations from practice guidelines to the management of adolescent and adult patients with asthma

• Improve adherence rates and overall effectiveness of asthma management strategies

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of primary care physicians and other health care professionals who provide care for adolescents and adults with asthma.
